Dingle Lane Childrens Centre. L8 9UB.
Age range: 2 – 5yrs.
We have been visiting Claremont Farm for the last three years; this unique opportunity allows some of the most disadvantaged families in Liverpool to experience the concept of ‘field to table’.
The visit provides access to a guided, informative walk around the farm, were the children are able to sample produce and ask questions relating to the growing process. All information is pitched age appropriately.
The produce is then incorporated into a cooking session when after a very brief demonstration, (age appropriate); the children ‘Do the cooking’. This reinforces the ‘field to table’ concept fully, by drawing upon the Childs/family experience on the welly walk earlier.
The whole experience fully supports the ‘5 a day’ scheme through sampling the produce and then eating the cooked samples. The children are also encouraged to choose all the colours of the rainbow to add to their vegetable tart, ensuring choice is given to all children…. Empowered children choose what and how much they eat. They can opt for one bite of something new (like one courgette slice) instead of an intimidating full serving.
As a Childrens centre from one of the most deprived wards in Liverpool, this trip provides a value for money service and a very exceptional experience for families.
Many Thanks for the past experiences, looking forward to future visits.

The quality of service and professionalism of Wirral’s tourism industry was celebrated last night at the Borough’s 10th annual Tourism Awards for Excellence.
Over 250 Tourism professionals gathered at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre for the prestigious event, which has come to represent the very best in Wirral’s tourism sector, as well as recognising the quality, achievements and continuous hard work of the individuals behind the success.
It was the first time the awards had been held at the new Floral Pavilion and guests enjoyed a beautiful meal cooked from locally sourced produce as part of Wirral’s Year of Food before taking their seats in the theatre for the glittering awards ceremony as the deserving winners received their trophies at what was described by one lucky winner as “Wirral’s Tourism Oscars.”
Big winners on the night included Richard Fox from Leverhulme Hotel who fought off fierce competition from five of the Borough’s top chefs to claim the coveted Chef of the Year award. 2010 has been Wirral’s Year of Food and it was perhaps only fitting that the driving force behind the Borough’s hugely successful Food and Drink Festival, Andrew Pimbley from Claremont Farm carried off the prestigious Food Champion award.
Cllr David Elderton, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure said: “I strongly believe how vitally important it is that we celebrate and reward the people who work so hard to make Wirral the fantastic tourism destination it is. It thrills me to see so many of those individuals here this evening to enjoy wonderful local food and celebrate with each other their achievements and awards received for a job very well done.”
